HOLY CROSS, Iowa - Edna A. (LeGrand) Hess, 95, of Dyersville, formerly of Holy Cross, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1911, in Holy Cross, daughter of Albert and Catherine (Berg) LeGrand.

She married Clarence Hess on April 14, 1936, in Holy Cross, where they farmed until retiring about 1970.

Edna loved cooking, playing bingo and playing cards with her family.

She endured the loss of her entire family during her lifetime. Her strong Catholic faith carried her through.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Marlene Hess, of Dyersville; three grandchildren, Shelly Hess, Jenni (Jon) Merkes and Cory Hess; three great-grandchildren, Mikaylah, Austin and Emma; a brother-in-law, Cyril (Cecelia) Hess; and two sisters-in-law, Rita Mae (Joe) LeGrand and Rita Catherine LeGrand.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; three sons, Donald, David and Steven; a daughter, Mary; five brothers, Nicholas, Victor, Albert, Raymond and Joseph LeGrand; and two sisters, Marie Steffen and Evelyn LeGrand.
