HOLY CROSS, Iowa - Cletus J. Meyer, 84, of Holy Cross, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, following a short illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Podasky officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1920, in Holy Cross, son of Anthony "Tony" and Elizabeth (Gotto) Meyer. He married Marie Cook on June 5, 1945, in North Buena Vista; she died in 1991.

Cletus farmed all his life in the Holy Cross area, retiring in 1976 when he moved to Holy Cross.

Surviving are two sons, Jim (Sandy) Meyer, of Holy Cross, and Gerald (Norma) Meyer, of Dubuque; three daughters, Diane (John) Kohlstedt, of McGregor, Judy (Fred) Vorwald, of Delhi, and Laura (Al) Haas, of Dyersville; nine grandchildren, Jim (Shelly) Meyer, Dan (Becky) Meyer, Michelle (Matt) Breeze, Jeff (Heather) Meyer, Tom Kohlstedt, Amy Kohlstedt, Josh Haas, Jeff Haas and Jason (Nikki) Haas; eight great-grandchildren and an expected great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Anna Errthum, of Holy Cross, Ceil Schueller, of Dubuque, and Leona (John) Cook, of New Vienna.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Dawn Meyer; and a sister, Bernita Wagner.

The family requests no flowers. A Cletus J. Meyer Memorial Fund has been established.
