PETERSBURG, Iowa - Lester H. Scherbring, 77, of Petersburg, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, at home, following a battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Petersburg, with the Rev. Louis Jaeger and the Rev. John O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m.

He was born on March 2, 1928, in rural Petersburg, son of John H. and Josephine (Ronnebaum) Scherbring.

He married Elaine Jaeger on Nov. 29, 1969, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Edgewood.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine; three daughters, Susan (Douglas) Blocker, of Oswego, Ill., Debra Scherbring, of Naperville, Ill., and Tammy (Wayne) Kirby, of Lisbon; a son, Michael (Rebecca) Scherbring, of Edgewood; six grandsons; a brother, Robert L. (Annamae) Scherbring, of Dyersville; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Lorraine) Stephan, of Dyersville, George Jaeger, of Cedar Rapids, Loras (Rebecca) Jaeger, of Ames, the Rev. Louis Jaeger, of Marshalltown, and Carl (Sharon) Jaeger, of Edgewood; and sisters-in-law, Julie (Alan) Mroch, of Cedar Rapids, and Sandra (Tom) Klaus, of Colesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter Scherbring; a sister, Eileen Stephan; and a sister-in-law, Mary Scherbring McBride.
