NEW VIENNA, Iowa - Clarence T. Bockenstedt, 79, of New Vienna, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736 and the American Legion Post 137. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 4 p.m., a parish scripture service at 5 p.m. and the VFW and American Legion Service at 7 p.m.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1925, in Petersburg, son of Thomas C. and Agatha (Bohenkamp) Bockenstedt.

He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict.

He married Alice Jaeger on Jan. 10, 1953, in Holy Cross. They farmed until retirement in 1991.

He was a member of St. Boniface Holy Name Society, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7736, a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 137 and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1734.

Clarence was an avid baseball fan, the Cubs being his favorite. He enjoyed playing cards at the VFW Club and loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Alice; five daughters, Joan (Dennis) Kloser, of Webster City, Ann (Dennis) Finn, of Dubuque, Elaine (Brad) Perrinjaquet and Mary (David) Fisher, both of Edgewood, and Barb (Paul) Maiers, of Holy Cross; three sons, Dan (Peggy) Bockenstedt, of Evansville, Wis., and Joe Bockenstedt and Bill (Shelly) Bockenstedt, both of New Vienna; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Laverne "Toby" (Dula) Bockenstedt, of Colesburg; two sisters, Grace (John) Kirsch and Alice Bockenstedt, both of Dyersville; and three sisters-in-law, Virgene Bockenstedt, of Dyersville, Betty (Bernie) Weber, of Dubuque, and Jan Bergan, of Edgewood.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Martin Bockenstedt.
