DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Paul J. Friedman, 101, of Dyersville, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m., and a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 5 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 11, 1904, in Haverhill, son of Jacob and Theresia (Holdgrafer) Friedman.

He graduated from St. Francis Brother's School in the class of 1922.

He married Isabel A. Tegeler on Sept. 30, 1929, in Dyersville.

Mr. Friedman worked in the family business with his father until he purchased it. He owned and operated what became known as the Friedman Motor Co. for nearly 40 years until retiring in 1969.

Paul was a former trustee of St. Francis Xavier Basilica Parish for 17 years and was an usher for many more. He was a 75-year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Surviving are a daughter, Norma (Alvin) March, of Dyersville; two grandchildren, Ann March, of Osceola, and James (Kathryn) March, of Sioux City; a great-granddaughter, Stephanie March; and a sister-in-law, Marcel Krapfl, of Waverly, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Isabel; a brother, Alvin Friedman; and three sisters, Marie Kruse, Henrietta VanHoose and Theresia Friedman, in infancy.
