WORTHINGTON, Iowa - Richard J. "Dick" Tobin, 82, of Worthington, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at home, following a long battle with cancer.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke and Msgr. Neil Tobin concelebrating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

Mr. Tobin was employed at Collins Radio as a laboratory technician, worked with the Worthington Oil Co., with Texaco Oil Co. in Cascade and at John Deere Dubuque Works, retiring in 1976, after 20 years of service. He also managed the Worthington Memorial Hall for many years.

He was born on Nov. 1, 1922, in Worthington, son of George and Alma (Streit) Tobin. He married Clara Mae Weber Hess on Oct. 27, 1977, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington

He graduated from St. Paul's School in Worthington, class of 1941, and attended Loras College, Dubuque.

He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, the Worthington Senior Citizens and Retired Seniors Volunteer Program.

He received the Governor's Volunteer Award from Governor Branstad.

Surviving are his wife, Clara Mae Weber Hess Tobin; his children, Sharon (Dr. Ernest) Goeres, of Morgantown, W.V., Donna (William J.) Dolney, of Sarasota, Fla., Rick (Laurence) Tobin, of San Francisco, and Cindy (Gary) Rufsvold, of Minneapolis; their mother, Kathleen George Tobin, of Minneapolis; his stepchildren, Michael Hess and Pat (Dianne) Hess, both of Worthington, LuAnn (friend, Pat Putz) Hess-Mullen, of Dyersville, and Kenneth (Wendy) Hess, of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; his grandchildren, Eric Goeres and Sullivan Lee Tobin, both of San Francisco, Jason Goeres of Elkins, W.V., Ryan Goeres, of St. Paul, Minn., Bill (Kathy) Dolny, and children, Emily, Billy and Bobby, all of Fort Worth, Texas, Scott Dolney, of Boston, and Sara Dolny and Allison Rufsvold, both of Minneapolis; his step grandchildren, David Hess, of Phoenix, Ariz., Casey Hess and Joshua Hess, both of Dyersville, Jennifer Hess, of Cedar Rapids, Kurt (Angie) Mullen, and son, Spencer, and Joe (Libby) Mullen, and children, Logan and Allison,

all of Manchester, Abby Hess, of Cedar Falls, and Brad, Jason and Nicole "Nikki" Hess and J.R. and Chris, all of Prairie du Chien; two sisters, Janice "Sis" Holscher, of Waterloo, and Georgene Pettinger, of Worthington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kevin Goeres; and a brother, Merle Tobin.
