Germaine M. Schlichte, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in her residence after a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Douglas Loecke will officiate.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where an American Legion Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters of America rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a parish Scripture service will be held at 5 p.m.

Germaine was born March 18, 1923, in Dyersville, the daughter of Frank and Cecelia Meis Olberding. She married Joseph Schlichte on Oct. 7, 1941, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica. Germaine was

a homemaker and cooked for the Western Dubuque School System for 20 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the American Legion Auxiliary. Germaine enjoyed playing cards, cooking, watching ball games and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph; a daughter, Lois (Roger) Klostermann of Dyersville; a son, Marv (Mary) Schlichte of Cedar Rapids; a son-in-law, Loras Rausch of Dyersville; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Gerald (Irma), Ray (Gen), Delbert (Marge) and Donald (Darlene) Olberding, two sisters, Catherine Griffin and Mercedes (Gilbert) Singsank, and a sister-in-law, Eileen Olberding, all of Dyersville.

Germaine was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Rausch, on May 30, 2003; and a brother, Robert Olberding.

Memorials are preferred to Hospice of Dubuque.
