NEW VIENNA, Iowa - Lucille Prier, 74, of New Vienna, passed away on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 18, 1930, in Dyersville, daughter of Emil and Monica (Westhoff) Steffensmeier. She married Eugene Prier on Jan. 3, 1953, in Dyersville.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Lucille enjoyed gardening, feeding her chickens, canning her fruits and vegetables and sewing. She also enjoyed her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Eugene, of New Vienna; three daughters, Patricia (Dale) Demmer and Elaine (Cletus) Urbain, both of Dyersville, and Janice (Wayne L.) Steffen, of New Vienna; eight sons, David Prier, of Marina, Calif., Carl (Julie) Prier, Wayne (Beverly) Prier, Daniel (Kim) Prier and Donald Prier, all of Dyersville, Dale (Sandy) Prier, of Hopkinton, Allen (Joyce) Prier, of Elkader, and Mark (Annette) Prier, of Dubuque; a son-in-law, Mark Hermsen, of Dyersville; 29 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence (Joe) Meis and Mary (Charles) Hellman, both of Holy Cross, and Alice (Richard) Nadermann, of Dyersville; five brothers, Eugene (Helen) Steffensmeier and Wilfred (Andrea) Steffensmeier, both of Farley, Eldon (Clara) Steffensmeier and James (Rita) Steffensmeier, both of Dyersville, and Donald (Elaine) Steffensmeier, of Cascade; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Steffensmeier, of Dyersville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lois Hermsen; and a brother, Arthur Steffensmeier.
