HOLY CROSS, Iowa - Marita M. Cook, 74, of Holy Cross, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, following a long illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista, with the Rev. Richard Gaul and the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1929, in Holy Cross, daughter of Aloysius and Cecelia (Vonderhaar) Wulfekuhle.

She married Francis "Franz" Cook on Dec. 27, 1951, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1990. They farmed in the Holy Cross area.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Marita was devoted to her family. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, playing cards and going out to eat. She also enjoyed sharing her musical talent with others by playing the accordion and piano.

Surviving are three sons, Richard (Ann) Cook, of Worthington, and Patrick D. (Mary Fox) Cook and Duane G. Cook, both of Holy Cross; three daughters, Joan (Dan) Wilwert, of Holy Cross, Joyce (John) Lehmann, of Bankston, and Julie (Rick) Barton, of Rickardsville; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Lansing, of McGregor; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Albin (Anita) Wulfekuhle and Sally (Charles) Maiers, both of Holy Cross, and Delores (Dave) Wertzberger, of Dubuque; and an extended family member, Linda (Tom) Coyle.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Dennis, on Oct. 28, 1972; four sisters, Viola Gaul, Verena Kluesner and Barbara and Anita Wulfekuhle; and four brothers, Albin, Edwin, Virgil and Elmer Wulfekuhle.
