Robert E. "Bob" Janzig, 71, of 2119 Rhomberg, Apt. 2, Dubuque, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque. Burial will be in the Dubuque Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Behr's Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque.

He was born on Oct. 5, 1935, in Dubuque, son of Ernest and Christina (Stoeffler) Janzig. Bob attended Sacred Heart and Dubuque Senior High School. He entered the Army in 1954 and served until 1956. He married Teresa Genz on Oct. 21, 1958, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque. He was employed as a machinist at the John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement in 1981. He later worked at the Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino.

He was a former member of the AMVETS and a United Auto Worker retiree. He was a member of St. Raphael's Cathedral.

Bob was a wonderful provider and was always there for his family. He enjoyed his time at the "dog track." Bob enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, camping or just sitting on the front porch. He enjoyed watching trains and taking long drives. He was a modeler whose passions were ships and trains.

Bob was an opinionated man, especially regarding politics, and he enjoyed a good debate. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Teresa Janzig, of Dubuque; three daughters, Debbie Janzig, of Dubuque, Nancy (Ron) Schilling, of Bernard, and Amy (Randy) Rohr, of Iowa Falls; a son, David (Carol Bly) Janzig, of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca, David II, Matthew, Rita, Ryan, Sarah and Nicole; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ethan and Joshua.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Marian and Dorothy Janzig, Delores Roeth and Yvonne (Bonnie) Healy; and a brother, John Janzig.

A Robert E. Janzig Memorial Fund has been established.
