HAZEL GREEN, Wis. - Louis A. Weis, 81, of Hazel Green, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Mayer officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m.

He was born on Aug. 16, 1929, in Dubuque, son of Paul P. and Marie (Kueper) Weis. He attended Sacred Heart grade school, worked to help the family and later received his GED. He also attended the former Bayless Business College. Louis was in the Army, stationed in Germany as a tank operator from 1951 to 1953. He married Rosemary Fishler on Nov. 15,1969, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque. He was a longtime employee of St. Regis Paper Co., retiring in 1984.

He also owned and operated two laundromats. He enjoyed living in the country and tinkering with old cars and tractors with his brothers. He appreciated all God's creations, watching the squirrels and deer, and his favorite dog Nikka. Louis and Rose traveled extensively to different countries and almost all of the United States. The couple made many interesting friends they visited or kept up with over the years. Louis loved American history.

Louis was a good and faithful husband, picking Rose up from Mercy Medical Center, where she was a nurse, to watching her and friends line dance. Louis loved people, God and family. He never met anyone he didn't like.

Surviving are his wife, Rose; sons, Scott Weis, of Minneapolis, and Shannon Weis, of Denver, Colo.; a granddaughter, Heather, of Chicago; a sister, Joanne (Bob) Stelpflug, of Lancaster Wis.; brothers, Arnold (Mary Ann) Weis and Leonard (Diane) Weis, both of Dubuque; several nieces and nephews; sisters-and brothers-in-law, Shirley (Harold) McDonald, of Mims, Fla., Joyce Loomis, of Dubuque, Francis (Darlene) Fishler, of East Dubuque, Ill., Donald (Natalia) Fishler, of Bullhead City, Ariz., Ronald Fishler, of Sugar Tree, Tenn., Bob (Cindy) Fishler, of Cuba City, Wis., Linda Stuessy, of Tulsa, Okla., and James (Penny) Fishler, of Milwaukee, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Jr. and Karl; a niece, Connie Koeller; sisters-in-law, Mary Fishler and Ann Fishler; brothers-in-law, Harold Loomis and Steve Stuessy; and best friends, George Frommelt, Clark Manahl, Joseph Kramer and Bud Duve.
