Dorothy M. Welty, 79, of 4000 Peru Road, died at 11:43 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. today, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where friends may call after 3 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque.

She was born on March 8, 1931, in Zwingle, Iowa, daughter of Louis and Theresa (Lenz) Roussel. She married Sylvester "Buster" Welty on June 9, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dubuque.

Dorothy retired from the former Dubuque Packing Co. and was a member

of the UFCW Local 150A. She was currently working as a cashier at Wal-mart.

Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, especially on road trips with her niece, Pam, and her siblings. She was a talented musician, and loved organizing her family music events. She also loved playing cards, bingo, and, "oh, did I mention she loved bowling and was a member of the 600 Club," and, by the way, she also was "Full House Louie's Daughter."

Surviving are her husband of almost 56 years, Sylvester "Buster" Welty; five daughters, Vicki (Bob) Peacy, of Superior, Wis., Jolene (Toby) Clauer, of Durango, Iowa, Jacqueline (Dan) Rother, of Hastings, Minn., Jerilyn (Tom) Gross, of Peosta, Iowa, and Jamie (David) Rook, of Monticello, Iowa; a son, James (DeVon) Welty, of Peosta, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Brook, Mary (Al) Nauman and Geraldine (Marion) Wiest; two brothers, Raymond Roussel and Gerald (Bonnie) Roussel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Roussel; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Roussel; a brother-in-law, William Brook; a grandson, James Fernquist; and a nephew, James Wiest.

The family would like to thank Dr. Santeen, the nurses and staff of Finley ICU, David Pacholke, and Fr. Tom from Holy Ghost Parish of Dubuque, for all their care, kindness and prayers they gave to Dorothy and her family.
