Joseph F. Spahn, 74, of 111 Blackhawk, Hanover, Ill., formerly of East Dubuque, Ill., and Dubuque, died at 7:03 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be accorded by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7976. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m. and the members of the VFW Post 7976 will meet at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Spahn formerly worked on the docks of H & W Trucking Co.

He was born on April 1, 1931, in Dubuque, son of Frank and Margaret (Stohlmeyer) Spahn. He married Shirley Hines on July 11, 1953, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He was a veteran of the Navy serving during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 421, St. John the Evangelist Church, Hanover, and the V.F.W. Post 7976 of East Dubuque.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Spahn; four daughters, Jolene (Robert) Bastian, of Hanover, Sheila Morales, of Dubuque, Sharon Stratton, of Baltimore, and Suzanne Burke, of Warren Ill.; two sons, Warren Spahn, of Dubuque, and Mike (Liz) Spahn, of Longmont, Colo.; grandchildren, Casey, Chris, Brittany, Ryan and Nick Bastian, Samuel Spahn, Todd and Chad Stratton, Tyler and Mallory Winter, Andy, Adam and Angella Burke; great-grandchildren, Ben and Peyton Bastian, Isabelle and Karoline Stratton, Sylvia Stratton and Sofie Burke; four brothers, Hank (Irma) Spahn and Bob (Doris) Spahn, both of East Dubuque, Francis (Nancy) Spahn, of Hartford, Wis., and Kenny (Sandy) Spahn, of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Adele Knierim, of New York, and Margie Brook, of Davenport, Iowa; and his best friend, Schnapp's.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Fred, Jerry and Ervin; and a sister, Genevieve Vandermiller.

A Joseph F. Spahn Memorial Fund has been established.
