PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Herbert Wlochal, 86, of Heartland Health Care Center, Platteville, formerly of Junction City and Milwaukee, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the care center, after suffering for many years with Alzheimer's Disease.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, with burial in Linwood Cemetery, both in Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque.

Mr. Wlochal worked for 40 years at Jaegers Bakery in Milwaukee until his retirement.

He was born on March 21, 1918, in Hildsheim, Germany, son of Fredrich and Anna (Hesse) Wlochal. Herbert came to America at the age of 7 through Ellis Island, and his family settled in Milwaukee.

He served in the Army for three years.

He married Myrtle Schultz on Sept. 1, 1945, in Milwaukee, and had six children. He later married Phyllis Wallock on Sept. 30, 1970, in Milwaukee; she preceded him in death in April 2003.

He was a private pilot and loved to fly as a hobby.

Surviving are his six children, Edwin Wlochal, Martha Wlochal, William Wlochal, Dale (Linda) Wlochal, Raymond (Robin) Wlochal and Anna (Bob) Lanka, all of Dubuque; a stepdaughter, Janet (Jerry) Chapley, of Stevens Point, Wis.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a sister, Margo Jessen; a brother, Helmut Wlochal; a grandson, Jesse Wlochal; and a stepdaughter and three stepsons.

A Herbert Wlochal Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to send a special thank-you to the nurses and staff of Heartland Health Care Center, Alzheimer's Unit, for their loving care and compassion for Herbert.
