Charles Clancy Jr.

Charles Clancy Jr., age 88, passed away peacefully at 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Ennoble Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

To honor Charles' life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 2215 Windsor Ave., with Rev Dwayne J. Thoman officiating. To celebrate Charles' life, family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Charles was born on September 12, 1926, in Dubuque, IA, son of Charles and Marie (Dress) Clancy Sr.

Charles proudly served with the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. Maryland. He married Grace Sarazin on January 25, 1947, at St. Patrick's Church. Charles was employed by the Dubuque Packing Company and Dubuque Stamping and Mfg. He also worked installing cattle feeders until his retirement in 1988. Charles and Grace were campground hosts at Yellow River Forest for over 25 years, where they made many wonderful friends. They also received an award from the Governor for their volunteer service at Yellow River Forest. He was a proud Irishman and enjoyed trout fishing and turkey and squirrel hunting. Charles was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with family, especially the grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of almost 68 years, Grace Clancy, Dubuque, IA; his children, David (Valerie) Clancy, East Dubuque, IL, Mike (Patti) Clancy, East Dubuque, IL, Susan (Randy) Koster, Dubuque, IA; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandson; his sister, Margaret Quigley, IN.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pat Schnee; 2 brothers, Eugene and Joseph Clancy.

A Charles Clancy Jr. memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Ennoble Manor, Sunset Park Place and Hospice of Dubuque for all their wonderful care.
