Joseph P. Clancy, 78, of 3525 Crescent Ridge, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at home surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the church adjacent to Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3966 Asbury Road. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by Dubuque American Legion Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the funeral home, where there will be a Fraternal Order of Eagles memorial ritual at 6 p.m.

He was born on Aug. 29, 1932, in Dubuque, son of Charles and Marie (Drees) Clancy. He attended St. Raphael Catholic School.

Joe served in the Army, in Korea, where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

He was employed at Reiner TV, and later at Peoples Natural Gas, retiring after 36 years.

He married Darlene (Reifsteck) Minor in 1953. He later married Beverly Seastrand in 1971; she preceded him in death in 1986. He then married Geraldine Thies in 1990; she preceded him in death in 2005.

He was past president of the Dubuque Fraternal Order of Eagles and served many other offices with them. He also was a past member of the Dubuque American Legion Post 6. He volunteered for and with many charity community activities and events. He was famous for making his corn beef and cabbage at the Eagles Club on St. Patrick's Day.

Joe played Dubuque softball with various teams over the years. He was an avid golfer and was one of the "Dirty Dozen."

Surviving are his children, Cindy (Brian) Strang, of Dubuque, Connie (Al) Pline, of Peosta, Iowa, Carla Schumacher, of Dubuque, Christine "Sis" (Pete) Davies, of Sherrill, Iowa, Charles (Debra) Seastrand, of Hemet, Calif., Carl "Duke" (Tami) Seastrand, of San Diego, Craig (Cindy) Seastrand, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Patrick (Jamie) Clancy, of Dubuque; grandchildren, Billy Patrum, Jessica Patrum, Krystal Hesseling, Brad (Angie) Pline, Dani (Steve) Campbell, Jessica Davies, Nicole Davies, Tyler Zierden, Adam Zierden, Kyle Zierden, Ryan Zierden, Jennifer Seastrand, Greg Seastrand, Melissa Seastrand, Caitlin Seastrand, Rick Seastrand, Tim Seastrand, Kaitlyn Fox, Brianna Fox, Breann Seastrand, Colin Fox, Brittney Seastrand and Emma Clancy; great-grandchildren, Jacob Seastrand, Lenora Seastrand, Isabella Seastrand, Paige Patrum and Addison Pline; and a special friend, Joanne Burgus.

A Joseph Clancy Memorial Fund has been established.
