Blanche A. Schmitt-Larson, 84, of Dubuque, Iowa, entered in to rest Easter Sunday Morning, April 5, 2015, at Luther Manor in Dubuque, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Blanche may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 3 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa, with Rev. Steve J. Rosonke presiding. Burial will be held in Dubuque Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa. Friends also may call after 8:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Blanche was born June 19, 1930, in Hecla, South Dakota, daughter of Randall and Tillie (VanderBeek) Borden. She graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1973. Blanche was married to Verlyn Schmitt from 1949-1986. She later married Charles Larson on June 20, 1992.

Blanche was an elementary school teacher for over 35 years. She began her career teaching in a one-room school in Graf, Iowa, the one-room Dell school in Peosta, Iowa, then parochial schools in Bankston and Farley. After retirement, she worked in the Hartig's post office for years and continued to tutor students in her home.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Larson, of Dubuque, IA, five sons: Reginald (Susie) Schmitt, of Waterloo, IA, Tom (Diane) Schmitt, of Peosta, IA, Steve (Mary) Schmitt, of Waterloo, IA, David (Tish) Schmitt, of Dubuque, IA, and Tim (Michelle) Schmitt, of Colorado Springs, CO; three daughters: Peggy (Sam) Lathrum, of Houston, TX, Brenda Clark, of Madison, WI and Penny (Dave) North, of Bellevue, IA; one step-daughter: Rita McCarty (Jim Freese), of Dubuque, IA; 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Tom Borden; one sister, Joanne Neumann.
