Arthur E. Oberbroeckling, 73, 121 W. 23rd St., died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 1996, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Egelhof-Casper-Strueber Funeral Home, 1145 Locust St., where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Post 6, of Dubuque.

Mr. Oberbroeckling was employed at John Deere & Co., Waterloo, Iowa, in 1945. He moved to Dubuque, where he was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works from 1946 to Feb. 1, 1982, when he retired after 36 years of service. He was a supervisor in the foundry and was one of the first 10 employees at John Deere Dubuque Works.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1922, in Farley, Iowa, son of George and Bertha (Beckman) Oberbroeckling. He married Ione A. "Oney" Neuendorf on April 25, 1942, at the Dubuque Bible Church.

He attended schools in the Farley area. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a tail gunner on the aircraft carrier "BonHomme Richard." He was a charter member of the Dubuque Bible Church and was a member of the American Legion, Post 6, of Dubuque, John Deere Retiree Association and Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and feeding wildlife. He was a loving father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Ione "Oney"; two daughters, Sally (David) Redenius, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Sharon (Emmett) Schwartz, of Dubuque; a son, Thomas (Linda) Oberbroeckling, of Marion, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Carol and Jonathon Redenius and Randall and Eric Oberbroeckling; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald, of Dubuque; and five sisters, Lucinda Clemen, of Phoenix, Ariz., Viola Bowling, Virginia (Vincent) Lopez and Germaine (Jack) Weber, all of Dubuque, and Mary (Robert) Schmitt, of Palatine, Ill.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Candace J. Oberbroeckling; his parents; a sister, Helen Parker; and a brother, George Oberbroeckling Jr.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque and Dubuque Bible Church.
