George Carl Silzer III
June 29, 1936 - November 30, 2016Funeral services for Captain George Carl Silzer III, of Langley, will be held Monday, 10:00 AM at Stephens-Key Chapel. Visitation with the family receiving friends will be Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 PM also at Stephens-Key Chapel.
Captain George Carl Silzer III was born on June 29, 1936 to George Carl and Lucille (Umbdenstock) Silzer in Los Angeles, California. He passed away on November 30, 2016 at his home in Langley at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 1 day.
George was raised on a farm in Illinois and later his family moved to Oklahoma. In his early years, he worked on the family dairy farm that was south of Tulsa near Glenpool. He attended school and graduated from high school in Elmwood, Illinois. Not long after graduating, his family sold the dairy farm and moved near Locust Grove and started a cattle operation.
On the weekends he and his family enjoyed boating at the lake. He later moved to Grand Lake and has been there for nearly fifty years. George loved working on boats and found a job as a mechanic at Port Tyler. Soon after, he started his own businesses, Ship or Shore Marine Service and Custom Yacht Services on Grand Lake. He was well known and loved amongst the Grand Lake community. He enjoyed taking his cruiser the "Katy Did" out on the water and was known for starting the Dripping Springs Moon-Off.
On November 21, 2014 he married Jo Ann Henry in South Padre Island, Texas and they made their home in Langley. He and Jo enjoyed their life on Grand Lake and also loved to travel. George's greatest joy in life was his family whom he loved dearly. His love and kindness will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jo, of the home; two children, Wade Silzer and wife Paula of Grand Lake and Marla Harp of Peggs; four step sons, Justin Sumner of Ketchum, Jarrod Sumner of Spavinaw, Darin DeSelm and wife Regina of Catoosa and Brian DeSelm and wife Chala of Tulsa; one sister; Sally Crosby and husband John of Vancouver, WA; five grandchildren, Blake Harp of Locust Grove and Jodee Pierce and husband Craig of Locust Grove; Blake DeSelm, Breanna Arsenault and husband Dave and Holie DeSelm who called him Georgie-poo, three great grandchildren, Colter and Cale Pierce and Kynslee Moffitt, two nephews; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
