Telegraph-Herald on February 10, 1915 (p. 10).

James Lally died at the family residence, 51 West Fourteenth Street, at 1:30 o’clock Wednesday morning after an illness of several years. During the last few months his sickness became quite severe and caused him to suffer greatly during the past few weeks.

Mr. Lally was born at Frankfort, Mo., Sept. 6, 1840. About sixty-five years ago he came to Dubuque with his parents and has remained here ever since. He learned the printer's trade, but soon gave this up to take a position where he could acquire the trade of a tinner. About forty-two years ago he established a business of his own, and for two score of years he conducted this business successfully. About two years ago, owing to ill health, he sold out his store and tin shop and retired from active business.

On Feb. 1, 1866, Mr. Lally was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Campbell. The widow and one daughter, Miss Florence survive. He was the last of the family, as his brothers and sisters died some years ago.

Mr. Lally was known to all who ever had any dealings with him for his straightforwardness, honor and integrity in his every transaction. He leaves a host of friends who extend to his bereaved wife and daughter their heartfelt sympathies at the loss of the husband and father. The deceased was a member of Harmony Lodge No. 2, I. O. O. F. and of Halycon Encampment No. 1, I. O. O. F.

The funeral will be held at the family residence on Friday afternoon at 2:30. The burial will be at Linwood under the auspices of Harmony Lodge No. 2, I. O. O. F.
