John J. "Jack" Shanahan 1927-2005

John J. "Jack" Shanahan, 78, of 1350 Altura Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at home, surrounded by family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Egelhof, Sie-gert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a scripture wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Shanahan worked as a supervisor at John Deere Dubuque Works for 31 years.

He was born on June 19, 1927, in Dubuque, son of John T. and Rita (Turley) Shanahan. He married Charlotte C. Nemmers on Dec. 27, 1950, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He graduated from Loras College in 1951.

He served with the Army in Europe from 1945 to 1947.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte, of Dubuque; a daughter, Cathy (David) Baron, of Libertyville, Ill.; four sons, Tom (Cheri) Shanahan, of Meridian, Idaho, Bill (Jeanne) Shanahan, of Weatherford, Okla., Mike (Lilly) Shanahan, of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Jon (Mary) Shanahan, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque and Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Weigel, University of Wisconsin Hospital; Dr. Thomas Sinsky and Dr. Holmes, Medical Associates; Dr. Gordon, Wendt Center, and their individual nurses and staff members.
