Julie Roxene Johnson Shanahan, 65, of Dubuque, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at home surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd, where there will be a wake service held at 4:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church, with the Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating.
Julie was born on June 8, 1949, in Long Beach, Calif., to William C. and Peggy (Corser) Johnson. She married Loras Shanahan on July 24, 1991, in Dubuque.
She worked at Ponderosa for six years and Wendy's for six years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Loras; sons, David (Becky) Haynes and Jason (Tina) Haynes; stepson, Kevin (Jessica) Shanahan; stepdaughters, Kathy Shanahan and Krista (Mike) Torrey; her grandchildren, Jessica, Jonathan, Crystal, Alli, Matt, Trisha, C.J., Tia, Cody, Keighan and Nick; great-grandchildren, Brody and Brycen; her brother, Bill Johnson; sister, Laurie Kaupang; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eulaine (Jim) Hutchcroft, Paul (Arlene) Shanahan, Bob Timmerman, Ginny (Jerry) Heim, Mary (George) Felderman and Chuck (Mary) Shanahan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother; parents; daughter, Carrie Shanahan; mother and father-in-law, Isabell and John Shanahan; sister-in-law, Ann Timmerman; and brother-in-law, Pat Shanahan.
In lieu of flowers, a Julie Shanahan Memorial Fund has been established.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Ronald Schope and nurse Lauri and Dr. Sudhir Koneru for all their wonderful care.
