Steven D. Shanahan, 51, of Bettendorf, formerly of Dubuque, died after an extended illness Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Manor Care Nursing Center, Davenport.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf, with the Rev. Thomas Spiegel officiating. Private committal services will be held. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, where there will be a prayer service at 5:30 p.m.

Mr. Shanahan was a subassembler and lead person at Litton Instruments and Life Support, Davenport. He also worked at Farmall, Rock Island.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1948, in Monticello, son of Cornelius and Estelle (Melloy) Shanahan. He married Liane Benisch on July 15, 1978, in Rock Island, Ill.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, American Legion and District Lodge 102 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He served with the Army during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Kristina Castor, of Seattle; two sons, Ryan Shanahan, of Iowa City, and Rory Shanahan, of Bettendorf; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Shanahan, of Denver, Barbara and Randy McPhail, of Grand Junction, Colo., Debi and Jon Gaschler, of Casper, Wyo., and Joanne and Evan Carruthers, of Grand Junction; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Marilyn Shanahan and Tom and Mary Shanahan, all of Dubuque, Neil Shanahan, of Medway, Ohio, Jim and Connie Shanahan, of Phoenix, Ariz., Richard and Shelley Shanahan, of Springville, Phil Shanahan, of Maquoketa, Bill and Maureen Shanahan, of Swisher; and his mother, Estelle Shanahan, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius, in 1993; and a sister, Sue Donahue, in 1991.

In lieu of flowers, a Steven D. Shanahan Memorial Fund has been established.
