Robert Louis "Pete" Kunnert, 83, 124 Fremont Ave., died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at The Finley Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Kunnert was president of the former Jaeger-Kunnert Co., until his retirement. He also was part owner of the Shot Tower Inn and Kunnert Sports.

He was born on March 26, 1914, in Dubuque, son of Frederick and Bertha (Brede) Kunnert.

"Uncle Pete," as he was affectionately known, was loved by his family and friends. He loved to bowl with his friends and go boating on his houseboat on the Mississippi. Bob was always ready for a game of cards.

Bob was like a second father to his nieces and nephews. He lived at the Kunnert family home with his brother Jake and Jake's wife, Letty, and their 10 children for 45 years. Pete was the family photographer, taking movies and pictures of special family events.

He graduated from the former Loras Academy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 510, Elks Club and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where he was a fund-raiser for the development of the church.

Surviving are eight nephews, Dick (Nancy) Kunnert, of Rockford, Ill., Jim (Bea) Kunnert, Fred (Sue) Kunnert, Pat (Diane) Kunnert, Bill Kunnert and Tom (Kelly) Kunnert, all of Dubuque, Kevin (Mary) Kunnert, of Durham, Ore., and John (Kim) Kunnert, of Basking Ridge, N.J.; five nieces, Sharon Kunnert and Sue (Bill) Techau, both of Yorkville, Ill., Barb (Rob) Stoffel and Beth Kunnert-Eggers, both of Dubuque, and Kathleen (Ivan) Gruhl, of Aurora, Ill.; and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha (Brede) and Frederick J. Kunnert; and three brothers, Arnold F. Kunnert, on Nov. 1, 1983; Walter Kunnert, in January 1955; and Irving Kunnert.

A Robert L. Kunnert Memorial Fund has been established.
