Herman “Boots” Nauman, 82, of Dubuque, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Luther Manor-Hillcrest. The Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Monday, March 13, 2017 at Holy Spirit Parish-Holy Ghost. Family will greet friends 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Rd. with a 6:00 pm Scripture Service. Military Honors will be conducted by Dubuque Marine Corps. League.

Herman was born July 12, 1934 in Dubuque, the son of Herman J. and Mary Susan (Jungblut) Nauman. He graduated from Loras Academy in 1952. After meeting the love of his life at Melody Mill, Herman married Marjorie Schuster on July 10, 1954 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Key West.

He served his country in the Naval Reserve, and retired after 32 years as a COW 4th Class Warrant Officer from the Ninth Naval District. Herman worked at the Dubuque Packing Company until it closed and then drove bus for Keyline in Dubuque.

He was a life-long member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, served 25 years on the board of Holy Ghost Credit Union, called BINGO at Holy Ghost & Wahlert, was a driver for DAV to escort veterans to the Veteran’s Hospital in Iowa City, and coordinated the volunteer AARP tax preparers at St. Matthew’s for 22 years.

A longtime and dedicated Chicago Cubs Fan, he celebrated their World Series victory in 2016. His favorite past-time was meeting the “boys” at Lacoma each morning to solve the world’s problems.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; children, Terry (Linda) Nauman of Macomb, IL, Pat (Scott) Cawiezell of Long Grove, IA, Connie Kennedy (friend Terry) of Altoona, IA, Jeff (Melissa) Nauman of Janesville, WI, David (Lucy) Nauman of Belchertown, MA, Randy (Kris) Nauman of Dubuque, Tom (Heidi) Nauman of Chanhassen, MN, and Jenny (Andy) Daughetee of Dubuque; 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; siblings John (Ann) Nauman, Lavonne Hoffman, Germaine Freiburger, Teresa Kroll, Agnes (Robert) O’Neill, Adele Peters, Margaret (Ken) Ziegenfuss, in-laws Eilene Nauman, Jeanne (Dick) Stierman, Ruth Schuster, Merlin “Nick” (Norma) Schuster, and Lois (John “Whitey”) Leytem.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Mildred Wirzbach, Henry Nauman, Gregory Nauman, Norbert Nauman, sister-in-law Leora Nauman, brothers-in-law Robert Hoffman, Loras Freiburger, Gene Kroll, George Peters, Bob Wirzbach and Clete Schuster, stepbrother Eldon Nauman, stepsisters Sister Eleanor Nauman, Lucille Beau, Marian Bales and Clara Spoden.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and Luther Manor for their compassionate care during this time.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Herman’s memory.
