Lauren Anne Schlueter
1986-2017

Lauren Anne Schlueter, 30, beloved daughter of Mary & Chip Nicol, Dave Schlueter, and Deb & Steve Lagen, passed away on February 25, 2017, in Doha, Qatar.

A celebration of Lauren's life will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2017, from 1-5 pm at the Dubuque Shooting Society, 10380 US-52, Dubuque, Iowa, with sharing of memories at 4 pm; all of Lauren's family and friends are invited to come and share memories and hugs in honor of Lauren.

Lauren was born 6 1/2 weeks premature on November 13, 1986 weighing only 3 lbs. 12 ounces. She came into this world a fighter and continued to live that way her entire life. In her younger years Lauren was active in Courtmasters volleyball and played several years of softball, but she mostly just liked to hang out with her friends. She was a leader and not a follower. Although the "goofy one" in the group, she also was the one to have your back if you needed her and would stand up to bullying and teasing.

When Lauren was 15 she took her first international trip with her father Dave to South Africa. That began her love affair with world travel. auren was very intelligent and graduated as a Junior from Hempstead High School in 2004. She went on a 3-week tour of Europe when she was 18, much to her parents' chagrin. She attended college at the University of Iowa and graduated with a BA in History in 2009. She then attended graduate school at DePaul University in Chicago and graduated with her Masters Degree in History in 2012.

Her passion in history was Cuba. In 2012 she took a trip to Cuba with her graduate class, which she always called the trip of a lifetime. She never stopped traveling after that. She moved to Doha, Qatar in 2014 where she was a history teacher at the Doha Academy for Boys. She was a wonderful, caring teacher and made a difference in many of her students' lives. While living in Doha she also became a certified Yoga Instructor and she loved practicing and teaching yoga.

Her years in the Middle East were filled with travel. Her goal was to see 30 countries in 30 years. She exceeded that goal by 2. Her claim to fame was that she walked on 5 of the 7 continents!

Lauren had a great sense of humor and LOVED to have a "good time." Her laugh was infectious! She also liked quiet times and always had her head in a book. She was passionate about world issues and was never afraid to voice her passion.

Lauren was an animal lover and had two "best friends" Lennon and Roosevelt. Lauren was brave, intelligent, funny, and caring of all creatures, whether it be her family and friends, a stranger on the street, or a lost dog. She prided herself in being unique. She had a charitable heart and a desire to leave the world better than she found it. Lauren was loved and will be missed by so many friends and family!!!

She is survived by 6 siblings Ariel Schmit, Nicholas Lagen, Kristi (Ty) Kleiner, Dustin (Kandi) Nicol, Casey (Thomas) Downs, and Susan (Matt) Schmidt, 11 nieces and nephews, Sawyer, Charlie, Grace, Evelyn, Brynn, Brock, Isaiah, Natalie, Finley, Jude, and Harper, grandparents Helen Thielen, Larry & Darla Hingtgen, and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved her very much.

Lauren was preceded in death by grandparents Mary Jane Beitzel, John & Pat Schlueter, and Colletta & John Lagen.
