OELWEIN, Iowa - Alfred Louis "Jr." Gansemer, 76, of Oelwein, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at Grandview Care Center, Oelwein.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church, Balltown, with the Rev. Raymond A. Burkle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 5 p.m.

Mr. Gansemer farmed all of his life in the Peosta area and then in the Manchester area until his retirement.

He was born on March 26, 1931, in Dubuque, son of Alfred P. and Berdiva H. (Sigwarth) Gansemer.

Al enjoyed riding horses and was an avid Cubs fan.

Surviving are three daughters, Deanne M. (Paul) Booth, of Davenport, Susan A. Gansemer, of Cedar Rapids, and Mary J. Gansemer, of Coralville; three sons, William L. Gansemer and John A. (Diane) Gansemer, both of Mason City, and Charles J. Gansemer, of Monona; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Berdiva Gansemer.

An Alfred L. Gansemer Memorial Fund has been established.
