RICKARDSVILLE, Iowa - Helen M. Gansemer, 87, of Dubuque, Iowa, and formerly of Rickardsville, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Helen may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2015, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 4:00 p.m.

Services for Helen will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rickardsville, Iowa, with Rev. Aloysius Vorwald Presiding. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Rickardsville, Iowa.

Helen was born March 25, 1928, in Dyersville, Iowa, daughter of Ben "J.C." and Anna (Erdmann) Weber. She received her education in the country schools south of Epworth. On May 9, 1951, she was united in marriage to Albert Gansemer at St. John's in Placid, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Rickardsville area until their retirement in 1987, at which time they moved to Dubuque, IA.

She loved being with family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and her flower gardens and was especially proud of her many Violets she had.

Helen was a former member of St. Joseph's Parish in Rickardsville, IA. Where she served as a Religious Education Coordinator and teacher for many years and was a member of St. Joseph's Rosary Society.

She was a current member of St. Anthony's Parish in Dubuque, Iowa.

She is survived by eight children, Mary Anne (Kenneth) Manternach, of Rickardsville, IA, Joe (Sue) Gansemer, of Epworth, IA, Julianne (Terry) Avenarius, of Cascade, IA, Edward Gansemer, of Dyersville, IA, Rita (Tom) Clemen, of Epworth, IA, Eugene (Kathy) Gansemer, of Holy Cross, IA, Madonna Gansemer, of Des Moines, IA, and Mike Gansemer, of Dubuque, IA; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three siblings, Clarence (Alice) Weber, of Dyersville, IA, Emil (Darlene) Weber, of Epworth, IA, and Raymond Weber, of Bernard, IA; and three sisters-in-law, Norma Weber, of Bernard, IA, Mary Weber, of Dyersville, IA, and Eileen (Florian "Tex") Winter, of Waucoma, IA.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert J. Gansemer, on February 26, 1988; a son, Donald Gansemer, on December 9, 1976; a granddaughter, Hannah Grace Gansemer; and two brothers, Leo Weber and Elmer Weber; sisters-in-law, Doris Weber and Theresa Gansemer; one brother-in-law, Clem Gansemer; Father and Mother-in-law, Nicholas Jr. and Marie (Ritt) Gansemer, and a special friend, Arnold Steger.
