John J. Kolfenbach, 82, of Temple Terrace, Fla., formerly of Dubuque, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at home.

Mr. Kolfenbach retired to Florida after working at Standard Oil of New Jersey. He also taught chemistry at St. Leo's College and at the University of South Florida, where he was named Professor of the Year his first year.

John's gentle manner and good humor endeared him to everyone he met and will be sorely missed.

Surviving are his son, Tom; his sisters, Dorothy Kies, of Kansas City, Mo., Mary Spaulding, of Port Richey, Fla., and Carolyn McGloughlin, of Dubuque; his beloved friend, Vicky Coldren, her daughter, Theresa Hackney, and her husband, Horace, and their children, Amanda, Adam and Allen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynne; a brother, Edwin; and his sisters, Elizabeth Delaney and Leona Adams.
