Mrs. Howard M. (Fannie) Wardle, 83, 854 W. Fifth St., died at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit.

Chapel services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Wardle was formerly a cook at Loras College. She later became a full-time homemaker.

She was born on Aug. 22, 1915, in Colesburg, Iowa, daughter of Charles and Lillian (Cole) Davis. She married Howard M. Wardle on July 6, 1935, in Galena, Ill.; he died Dec. 25, 1982.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo. Fannie was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are seven daughters, Beverly A. (Raymond) Steger, Sharon K. Wardle, Judith C. Wardle, Connie J. McIntyre, Dianne M. (Walter) Brecht, Janice R. Wardle and Kathy L. Wardle, all of Dubuque; a son, Roger L. (Diane) Wardle, of East Dubuque, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie (Donald) Ward and Virginia Donath, both of Dubuque; and three brothers, Cletus (Millie) Davis and Clarence Davis, both of Dubuque, and Roy Davis, of Manchester, Iowa.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Charles Wardle, on Nov. 8, 1943; two great-grandsons, Terry Steger and Joseph Ede Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy Davis and Mrs. Clarence "Pete" (Mary) Ostrander; and a brother, Merle "Jim" Davis.

A Fannie Wardle Memorial Fund has been established.
