Gregor J. "Greg" Wardle, 38, of 520 Edith St., Dubuque, formerly of East Dubuque, died Monday, April 20, 2009.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Zinkula officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1970, in Dubuque, son of Roger L. and Diane D. (Klein) Wardle. He was a graduate of Wahlert High School, Class of 1989. He attended Loras College for two and a half years majoring in accounting.

He married Kelli Rae Merrick on May 21, 1994, in Dubuque.

Greg was employed at McGraw Hill as a return specialist.

He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Chicago Cubs and the Minnesota Vikings. He was a die-hard John Wayne fan and enjoyed a good game of euchre and loved country music.

Greg had a soft and big heart. He was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed family get-togethers.

Surviving are his wife, Kelli, and their three children, Cody D., Bailey D. and Nathan R. Wardle, all at home; his parents, Roger and Diane (Klein) Wardle, of East Dubuque; a brother Robert (Jennifer) Wardle, of Dubuque; nieces, Hannah and Grace; his stepgrandmother, LaVerne Klein, of Dubuque; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marian (Douglas) Schmitz, of Maquoketa, Iowa; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norval (Wanda) Merrick, of West Plains, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Dante (Dee) Merrick, of Lost Nation, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law, Desiree and Kayla Schmitz, of Maquoketa.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Howard and Fannie Wardle; and his maternal grandparents, Ambrose and Theresa Klein.

In lieu of flowers, a Greg Wardle Memorial Fund has been established.

The family of Greg would like to thank our family, friends, and our community for their unending support, prayers, and rescue efforts in finding Greg. We thank you all from the very bottom of our hearts.

A special thank you to Jay Kiernan for all his efforts and the many, many long hours spent in his unending search for Greg. We can never thank you enough.
