Lucille M. Keyes, 78, of Riverside Nursing Home, Charles City, Iowa, formerly of 1008 Shady Lane, Dubuque, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 8, 1998, at the nursing home.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque, with entombment in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Keyes worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for eight years and also was a homemaker for many years.

She was born on May 1, 1920, in Wisconsin, daughter of John and Clara (Schmitt) Klein. She married Joseph J. Keyes on April 14, 1942, at St. Peter Church, Elk Grove, Wis.; he died Jan. 4, 1996.

She graduated from Cuba City (Wis.) High School. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and its Rosary Society. For 15 years, she was a volunteer at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit.

Surviving are a son, Robert Joseph (Mary Lou) Keyes, of Charles City, Iowa; a daughter, Mary Lou (Jerry) Porter, of Mukwonago, Wis.; four grandchildren, Michelle (Byron) Keyes Welch, of Lincoln, R.I., Christina (Thomas) Diener, of Milwaukee, and Ryan and Jeff Porter; a great-granddaughter, Kathleen Marie Welch; brothers, Cyril (Dorothy) Klein, of Cuba City, and Gilbert (Mary Lou) Klein, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and sisters, Rosemary (Nick) Welter, of Holy Cross, Iowa, Kathleen (Jack) Schwertman, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Mary (Frank) Grimes, of Davenport, Iowa.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Adella Fitzgerald, Margaret Hammel and Delores Waul; and brothers, Alfred, Raymond and Joseph Klein, and an infant brother, Edmund.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association and Mayo Research Foundation.
