Dubuque Telegraph Herald, January 14, 1943

Mrs. Rose Ellen Scanlan, wife of J. H. Scanlan, St. Paul, Minn., died at a local hospital Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock. She had been in ill health for the last three years.

The funeral will be held from the Didesch Funeral Home to the Church of the Nativity Saturday morning at a time to be announced later, burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Mrs. Scanlan was born in Dubuque, daughter of Patrick and Johanna Tully Fogarty, and was married to Mr. Scanlan in 1918. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Locomotive Engineers.

Surviving are her husband, three sisters, Mrs. Peter N. (Hanna) Heinz, Dubuque; Mrs. Agnes Rigdon, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Mrs. Helen Sullivan, St. Paul, Minn., and one brother, Maurice Fogarty, Peoria, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
