Charles R. Kruser 1925-2016

Charles R. Kruser, Sr. 91, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Thursday, December 15th, 2016 at Ennoble Manor.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21st 2016 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #6. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 on Tuesday, December 20th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.

Charles was born on March 25, 1925 in Kieler, Wisconsin the son of August and Philomena (Thiltgen) Kruser. He married Elaine Tigges on November 26, 1946 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2013.

He served in the US Army during WWII in the Philippines and New Guinea; and was a member of the VWF. He worked as an auto mechanic for Bird Chevrolet in Dubuque for 40 years.

Charles liked to gamble, play cards, do puzzles, fish, hunt and work in his garden. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends at the nursing home, especially Doug.

He is survived by his five children, Shirley Boland, of Amarillo, TX, Darlene Thomas, of Dubuque, Charles (Wilma) Kruser, Jr., of Dubuque, Raymond (Linda) Kruser of Janesville, WI, and Terrance (Spouse, Rio) Kruser, of Federal Way, WA; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law Brian Boland and Mark Thomas; his wife Elaine; brothers William (Pat) Kruser, Cleo (Dorothy) Kruser, and Raymond Kruser; sisters Eileen (Alton) Eudaly and Edna Kruser.

In lieu of flowers a Charles Kruser memorial fund will be established.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Ennoble Manor, Dr. William Dall, Dr. Cao, and Hospice of Dubuque for all their wonderful care they gave.
