PIONEER CALLED
~
Death of Gottlieb Wunderlich Take Place
at the Family Residence
on Couler Avenue
~
The death of Gottlieb Wunderlich, one of Dubuque’s pioneer settlors occurred at 8 o’clock this morning at his home, 2006 Couler Avenue, aged 67 years. Deceased had been a sufferer from rheumatism and other complications for several months, and had not been able to be out of the house since last August. Mr. Wunderlich belonged to the sturdy class of our early settlors who passed away through the hardship and privation which all had to experience in the early days, but through his industry and honesty made for himself a good home and competency on which to leave at ease in his later years.

Deceased was born in Lieban, Saxony, Germany Jan. 27, 1834, and when seventeen years of age came to America, stopping in Pittsburgh, where he learned the trade of a wagon maker, which occupation he followed in later life. When twenty years of age, in 1854, he came to Dubuque where he has ever since here resided. Deceased was a man of unassuming manner, but generous and kind, and was a quiet and unostentatious giving to the poor of his earnings, and his death is deplored by his neighbors and many acquaintances.

Mr. Wunderlich was a brother, of John, Henry and August, all well-known residents of this city, and Albert of St. Paul. He is also survived by his wife and two sons, Herman of this city and Albert of St. Paul. One sister, Mrs. Nienstedt of Clarinda, Iowa also survives him.
