ASBURY, Iowa - Melvin Patrick Flynn, 71, 2341 Birchwood Drive, Asbury, died at 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 1996, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 7 p.m.
Mr. Flynn was retired from John Deere Dubuque Works and was currently a co-owner of Flynn Printing.
He was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Dubuque, son of William and Mathilda (Connolly) Flynn. He married Madonna Cox July 27, 1946, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church.
He attended the former Loras Academy. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, United Automobile Workers Local 94, and the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce. He also was an active member of the Dubuque Democratic Party. He served in the Army during World War II and served in the Battle of the Bulge.
Surviving are his wife, Madonna; two sons, Patrick M. (and Mary) Flynn and Timothy W. (and Joanne) Flynn, both of Dubuque; four daughters, Barbara J. (and Joseph) Gulyash, Kathy Flynn Thurlow (and Paul) and Suellen Flynn, all of Dubuque, and Julie Ness (and Rick), of Waterloo, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (and Leonard) Sobieski, of Vienna, Va., and Jeanne (and Gus) Cassacio, of Bloomingdale, Ill.; and a brother, John (and Donna) Flynn, of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mathilda Flynn; and a sister, Mary Flynn.
A Melvin Patrick Flynn Memorial Fund has been established.
