Leo E. Tippe, 94, of Dubuque, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home & Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road, where the family will greet friends starting at 11 a.m. till service time on Wednesday. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque.
Leo was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Dubuque, son of Leo and Fannie (Jenni) Tippe. He graduated from Senior High School in 1938. He then attended the University of Dubuque.
Leo served in the Army-Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, where he was a navigator/bombardier in the 499th Bomb Group, and the 20th Air Force in the Pacific Theater.
He married Elaine D. Taylor on March 20, 1948, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Leo worked for Dubuque Packing from 1948 until his retirement in 1981 as assistant vice president of pork product sales.
He was a 50-year member of the American Legion and a longtime member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Leo enjoyed traveling with his sons to Cubs games. With all their travels to games, the Cubs never won a game when they all attended together. His granddaughters will always remember when grandpa would sing "Thank Heaven for Little Girls."
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; sons, John C. (Vera Louise) Tippe, of Dubuque, and Lee J. (Carol) Tippe, of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Allison (John Moore) Tippe, of Austin, Texas, and Laurel Tippe, of Galesburg, Ill.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pearl and Melvina; a brother, Alvin; and his uncles, Ed and Bill Jenni.
Flowers are welcomed but the family would prefer memorials to Bethany Home or St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Leo's memory.
