Howard Breson, 85, of 2907 Indiana St., died Monday, June 7, 2004, at home, from natural causes.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Marine Corps League and the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans Association. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Breson worked at John Deere Dubuque Works.

He was born on Dec. 20, 1918, in Dubuque, son of Anthony H. and Frances (Leonard) Breson. He married Ethel Hingtgen on June 24, 1948, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue, Iowa.

He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1936.

He enlisted in the Army Air Force in October 1941, and attended Air Force Aeronautics Training School and Boeing Aeronautical School. He was discharged in August 1945 with the rank of master sergeant. He received the Bronze Star World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Mid East Campaign Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and two Clusters Unit Citations.

He was a member of Dutrac Community Credit Union, John Deere Retiree Association, Local 94 United Automobile Workers CIO Retiree, Izaak Walton Gun Club and the Izaak Walton League, 8th Air Force Historical Society and the 96th Bomb Group Association.

He was a loving husband and father. He had many interests, including trap and skeet shooting, fishing, hunting, boating, movies and music. He continued his interest in the military and its various aircraft.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ethel; two daughters, Betty Breson, of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Debra Breson, of Dubuque; a brother, Carl Breson, of Bedford, Texas; a niece, Susan Josadas, of Bedford; and a sister-in-law, Shirley (Roger) Scholtes, of Bellevue.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
