Paul G. "Ozzie" Schnorenberg, 85, of 885 Kane St., died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Nativity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by Dubuque Marine Corp League. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on July 28, 1922, in Fennimore, Wis., son of Orville and Gertrude (Hilvers) Schnorenberg. He married Grace Cate on Dec. 28, 1946, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque.

Paul graduated from Loras Academy and attended Loras College. As a young man, Paul coached at Nativity School.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War.

He worked for a Firestone dealership for 30 years, then managed the Firestone Truck Center for 10 years, retiring in 1986.

Paul was very active in the community. He was a member of DACU, People in Need, Sertoma Club and Camp Albrecht Acres Board of Directors. He served as president of the Nativity Parish Council for two years. Paul was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a past grand knight of Council 510, where he was also a trustee and on the Julien Committee. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Dubuque Food Pantry and the Dubuque Rescue Mission. He also was the past manager of the Rescue Mission Store.

Paul was an umpire for baseball and basketball, coached the Lux Club Women's Softball team and was on the committee to do work at Camp Little Cloud Girl Scout camp. He was a member of the Kiwanis Hall of Fame as an umpire and the Softball Hall of Fame. He was also an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Although Paul was active in many things, his family was the most important thing in his life.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Schnorenberg, of Dubuque; five children, Paula (Jim) Odefey, of Red Oak, Iowa, Robert (Diane) Schnorenberg, of Davenport, Iowa, Barbara Tlamka, of Dubuque, Karen (David) Zerante, of Chicago Heights, Ill., and Patricia (Rich) Rupp, of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gayle Brodeur, of Reno, Nev.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances, Mona, Adeline and Veronica; and a brother, Bill.

A Paul G. Schnorenberg Memorial Fund has been established.
