Irma was born September 13, 1919, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Viola (Kistler) Schmidt. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1937. On September 15, 1943, she married John J. Cody in Denver, Colorado. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1989.

Irma was a loving mother and grandmother, the strong core of her family. We are blessed to have shared in her life. Irma lived her last 11 years at Bethany Home and thrived with the love and care of the staff. She thoroughly enjoyed her euchre games at Bethany. In her later years, she became an avid sports fan and cheered for her family's favorite teams.

Faith was important to Irma and she was a 65 year member of St. Columbkille's. She also was a longtime member of the Mercy Service Club.

Surviving are three children, Anne (Dan) Roush, of Dubuque, John Cody, of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Dick (Sharon) Cody, of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Ben (Susie) and Doug (Kim) Roush, Erin (Ryan) Robinson and Adam (Lisa), Tim (Jenna), Shane, Marissa and Lauren Cody; and 11 great grandchildren, Cody, Maclaine, Jacob, Spencer, Teagan, Kelly, Mary, Will, Braden, Elise and Grace.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Oeth and Lois O'Hearn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Home or a charity of your choice.
