Edward M. Brosius, 92, of Dubuque, went to his eternal home Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home and Crematory, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish Scripture wake service at 2:30 p.m. and a service conducted by past commanders of the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6 at 5 p.m.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1920, in Dubuque, son of John and Margaret (Mersch-Specht) Brosius. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1938 and received his bachelor of art's degree from Loras College in 1950.

Ed was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army.

He married Jean Flammang on June 11, 1955.

Ed retired from the city of Dubuque in 1993.

He was a member of the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6, for more than 60 years and served as the post commander in 1959, service officer for more than 30 years and as adjutant for many years. Ed also was chairman of the Dubuque County March of Dimes for three years and served on the board of directors for 15 years. Ed was a committee member of the St. Anthony's Boy Scouts, Troop 7 for 21 years and received the prestigious Boy Scout St. George Emblem. He was a member of St. Anthony's Church for more than 50 years where he served as an usher. He was a devoted member of the Power of Prayer.

He enjoyed gardening, sharing his harvest and his pumpkin patch for the grandchildren. Ed also loved to golf, play euchre, walk and go to concerts and plays. He would always state his kids were his greatest asset.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Jean, of Dubuque; his children, Tom (Valarie) Brosius, of Moline, Ill., JoAnne (Tim) Flynn, Mike (Robin) Brosius, Betty (Doug) Heil, Dan (Dawn) Brosius and Lori (Perry) Pickel, all of Dubuque, Ron (Carla) Brosius, of Peosta, Iowa, John (Jenny) Brosius, of Kieler, Wis., and Jim (Becca) Brosius and Greg (Trisha) Brosius, both of Dubuque; 26 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Francis Brosius, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Leah; a brother, Fr. Al Brosius; a brother- and sister-in-law, Harold and Leona Specht; a sister- and brother-in-law, Lucille and Ollie Airheart; and a sister-in-law, Marion Brosius.

An Edward M. Brosius Memorial Fund has been established.
