Mrs. George H. (Marie C.) Reiter, 87, of 666 S. Bluff Road, Lot 55, South Beloit, Ill., formerly of 4236 Swan Drive, Dubuque, died at 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Beloit Memorial Hospital.

Chapel services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.

Mrs. Reiter formerly worked at General Dry Battery, Dubuque. Later, she was a full-time homemaker and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

She was born on Jan. 10, 1914, in Dubuque, daughter of Joseph and Anna (Schaan) Welter. She married George H. Reiter on March 12, 1938, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She attended the former Immaculate Conception Academy, Dubuque. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish, Dubuque, until she moved to South Beloit, about four months ago. She enjoyed going shopping with her granddaughters.

Surviving are her husband, George H. Reiter, of South Beloit; a son, Ronald G. (fiancee Debra Hackett) Reiter, of South Beloit; five grandchildren, Candace Smith and Tracy Reiter, Tammy (John) Naugle, Wendi (Harry) Curry and Terri (fiance Tony Peacock) Thrall; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Patricia Reiter; a grandson, Bradley Reiter; a sister, Mrs. Arnold (Ann) Lang; and two brothers, Joseph Welter and John P. Welter.

A Marie C. Reiter Memorial Fund has been established.
