Irene M. Loch (Cain) McMahon 1927-2016

Irene M. (Cain) McMahon, 89 of Dubuque, passed away, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at home.

Funeral Mass will be 9:00 am Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Family will greet friends 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm Monday, September, 5, 2016 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Rd., with a 6:00 pm Scripture Service; additional visitation will be one hour prior to Mass on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Irene was born June 19, 1927 in Balltown, the daughter of John and Cecelia (Stoffel) Loch. She married Allan Cain in 1946. She married Michael McMahon in 1970.

Irene was a waitress in the restaurant industry. She was employed at Rosheks Packet Room, The Bridge Restaurant, and then at Tots Tap.

Surviving are a son, James Cain, of Cape Canaveral, Florida, two daughters, Judith (Curtis) Gaherty and Kathleen (Patrick) Murphy, both of Dubuque; grandchildren Dawn Vevera, Ryan and Keefe Gaherty, Gina Bell, Tara Robinson, Allan Cain, Mitchell and Nathan Gaherty, Kayle and Ryland Murphy; great-grandchildren MaKenzie, Morgan, Gage, Dylan, Katelyn and Jaxon Gaherty and T.J., Brandon and Katie Bell, and Grace Vevera; step-children Sharon Keena, of Rockford, IL, Mike (Mary) McMahon, of Arizona, and Patrick McMahon, of New Mexico; a sister, Lucille Helbing, of Platteville, WI; and sisters-in-law Jeaninne Cain of Muscatine, IA, Mary Jane Cain, Sally Cain and Rita Loch of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a grandson, Gavin Murphy; a brother, Mathias Loch; a sister, Marie (Harold) Parker; brothers-in-law Robert Cain, John Cain, LeRoy Cain, Donald Cain and Burt Helbing; and sisters- and brothers-in-law Marie and Gus Meloy, Margaret and Dale Chambers, Wilma and Melvin Hingtgen, Agnes and Joseph Huseman.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Cindy, Emily, and Jennifer for your care. The family would also like to thank Lori and her friends at Alverno for your caring support during this time.
