Elizabeth Jane Haverland Rohner 1923-2016

Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Rohner, 93, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, formerly of Dubuque, passed away in peace Wednesday, August 24, 2016.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 2 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1870 St. Ambrose Street, Dubuque. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 1 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Rd., where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 pm.

Betty was born on May 1, 1923 in Dubuque, the daughter of Raymond H. and Amelia M. (Piltz) Haverland, the oldest of their 3 children. She graduated from St. Columbkille High School, where she loved her cheerleading days.

On November 7, 1945 she married Leroy H. Reiter at Nativity Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 1990. She married David T. Rohner on June 8, 2001 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 2014. Betty took her faith seriously and attended Mass religiously at Nativity and St. Anthony's in Dubuque, as well as St. Stephen's in Sun Lakes.

She was employed as a Personal Banker at American Trust & Savings Bank for 25 years. She loved dealing with the public and they loved her. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering. Her life was one of devotion. She was devoted to her children, her husbands, her grandchildren, her extended family of nieces and nephews and to her mother, whom she cared for until her mother's passing at age 99.

Betty was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and its St. Bernadette Circle. She was a past Rosary Society Officer, member of Catholic Daughters and charter member of Theda Master Chapter, and Beta Sigma Phi. Her involvement with her sorority extended over seven decades and included serving in all Officer capacities from President to Treasurer, as well as leading volunteer efforts such as making puppets for Children's Ward at Iowa City Hospital. An annual sorority dancing highlight for Betty was the Sweetheart Ball at the Melody Mill in the Dubuque area.

She enjoyed dancing, playing Bingo, music, gardening and decorating her home. Her life was full of color, fashion, laughter, a true concern and compassion for others, and above all, her relationship with Christ Her Lord and Savior. She loved her nieces and nephews and the family reunions that were held in her later years. She loved going to Arizona, Branson, Missouri, Chicago for Cubs games with her mother and the family vacations at Freddy's beach, outside Delhi, Iowa. Her greatest pleasure came from visiting her children and grandchildren, or having them visit her.

Betty is survived by her children David J. Reiter of Charleston, SC; Commander, USN (Ret.) Donald J. (Susan) Reiter of Alexandria, VA, Diane M. (Dr. Howard) Brown of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Dean R. (Sandy) Reiter of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren John Reiter, Cathy (Rob) Reynolds, Mark Reiter, Kevin (Heather) Reiter, Max Reiter, Alexis Brown, Mason Reiter, and Taylor Reiter; stepson Steve Rohner; step grandson, Nicholas Rohner; great grandson, Noah Reynolds; great granddaughters, Haven Reynolds and Parker Reiter; and many dear friends, especially in the Dubuque area.
