Jean E. Davis Runde 1934-2016

Jean E. Runde, 82, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2016 at home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 6th, at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Joseph Hauer officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 5th, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 3:00 p.m.

Jean was born on June 12, 1934 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Richard and Florentine (Reding) Davis. She married William "Bill" Runde in 1953 at the Church of the Nativity. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2010.

Jean was an active member of Sacred Heart and most recently Resurrection Parishes. She worked as an associate in the Dubuque Community School District for years in numerous positions and just loved working with the kids. The last several years she volunteered at Marshall School and again, just loved working with the kids. She was like a grandmother to each one of them.

Jean was an avid sports fan, always cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball and the Green Bay Packers in football. She enjoyed all the different playoffs and would always be involved in some kind of playoff pool! She just really enjoyed sports overall. She really enjoyed all of her outings with her former classmates and great friends.

She was a great family person and loved getting together with family and friends. Especially the grandkids and great grandkids! She was not only a great Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, she was a best friend to all of us.

Surviving are her six children, Ken Runde, daughter-in-law Cindy Runde and Mike (Tina) Runde, all of Dubuque, Dick (Sandy) Runde of Sherrill, Iowa, Nancy (Todd) Robertson and Bill (Mary) Runde, both of Dubuque, and Dan "Buck" (Shawn) Runde of Sherrill, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Jane Davis of Dubuque of Dubuque.

She preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; her five brothers and sister, Richard (Alice) Davis, Evelyn (Ted) Martin, Ken (Barb) Davis, Joe Davis, Jim (Joanne) Davis and Father Charles Davis.

In lieu of flowers, a Jean E. Runde Memorial Fund has been established.
