Helen (Burke-Cox) Hawkes, 83, of Henderson, Nev., died after a brief illness Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, in Nevada.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Key West, Iowa. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West.

She was born on Sept. 12, 1916, in Dubuque, daughter of Joseph and Nell (Burke) Cox. She married James McCauley Hawkes on Dec. 31, 1938, in Phoenix.

She graduated from Immaculate Conception in 1934 and received her nursing degree in 1937 from St. Joseph School of Nursing, Elgin, Ill.

Surviving are her sons, William (Jean) Hawkes, of Atlanta; and Stephen (Judith) Hawkes, of Eau Claire, Wis.; a daughter, Alexandra (Charles) Dunnweber, of Henderson; a brother, Loras (June) Cox, of Austin, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Mary Cox, Kathryn Cox and Cynthia Hawkes; grandchildren, Holly (Todd) Larson, Stephen (Julia) Hawkes, Kimberly Hawkes, Julie Dunnweber and Demary (Grady) Burns; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James McCauley; and brothers, Burke, John and Bill Cox.
