Peosta, Iowa May 30 – Good Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock, the hour of Christ’s death on the cross, Mrs. Bridget Dougherty, widow of John Dougherty passed away at her home at 1845 Atlantic Street, Dubuque after an eleven day illness. Mrs. Dougherty was a good Catholic, a member of Nativity Church and its Rosary Society and Ladies Guild. She was a devoted wife and good mother and her chief interests in life were her home and family. Deceased was born in Vernon Township, Dubuque County April 12, 1868, daughter of the late John and Ellen Murphy, early pioneers of this county. Her marriage to John E. Dougherty took place June 1, 1897 at Holy Family Church, New Melleray. After the death of Mr. Dougherty, March 11, 1924, Mrs. Dougherty moved from their farm home near Peosta to Dubuque.

She is survived by two daughters, (Mary) Mrs. Edward Bradley; Epworth, (Agnes) Mrs. Clarence Donovan; Dubuque; three sons, J. J. Dougherty, Peosta; Daniel and Henry Dougherty, Dubuque; 15 grandchildren, two brothers, Frank Murphy, Peosta; Lawrence Murphy, Dubuque; one daughter Cecilia, preceded her in death.

The funeral was held Monday morning at 9 o’clock from the late home to the church of the Nativity. Rev. M. L. Kerper officiated and gave the funeral sermon. Rev. John Breitbach II of Worthington, formerly of Peosta was in the sanctuary.

Burial was made in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Father Kerper officiated at the graveside. Pallbearers were Leck Kinsella, Matt Spielman, Wm. McClain, and Franklin Lane of Dubuque and James Burds and Bernard Chapman of Peosta. The community extends sympathy to the beareved relatives.

Out of town people attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kinniry and son Paul of DeKalb, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cain of LeMars, Ia.; Dr. and Mrs. James Flynn and daughter Catherine, of Jesup, Ia.; and Mrs. J. P. Cain, of Spencer, Ia.
