Dorothy M. Winner, age 89, of Dubuque, IA, was called home peacefully at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2016, at Dubuque Specialty Care, surrounded by her loving family. To honor Dorothy's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, 231 Bluff Street, with Rev. Alan J. Dietzenbach officiating. To celebrate Dorothy's life, family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on June 29, 1926, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of William and Marie (Eigenberger) Peters.

Dorothy was a proud lifelong resident of Dubuque. She would eventually meet the love of her life, Clifford Winner, and they would be united in marriage on June 7, 1947, at St. Patrick's Church. They would be blessed with 67 wonderful years together, and 4 beautiful children, before Clifford was called home ahead of her on October 21, 2014.

Dorothy discovered great joy in fulfilling her mission to be a loving wife, mother and grandmother; but she would also graciously venture outside of the home as a secretary for Miller Realty, American Trust and lastly at Dubuque Senior High School. She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Mary's Church as well as their Altar and Rosary Society. Dorothy was an energetic woman who eagerly seized any opportunity to spend time with her deeply adored family. Her favorite endeavors, during her free-time, included camping with family and friends and traveling throughout the country to witness God's creation firsthand. Dorothy made good use of her 89 years here with us and has left a definite and positive impact on all those who knew and loved her. We will miss her dearly and remember her most fondly, but today we seek and find comfort in knowing that she is now, once again, reunited with her loving husband, Clifford and her precious children, Thomas and Marian.

her son-in-law and grandchildren,
Gary Backes and his children, Katie and Kyle Backes, Dubuque, IA;

grandchildren, Christopher (Christina) Winner and Sara (Zach) Dowell, all of Dubuque;

6 great-grandchildren,
Chase, London, Hunter, Haley, Bentley and Griffin;

and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Clifford; a son, Thomas Winner in 2010; a daughter, Marian Backes in 2015; and a brother, Laverne "Buddy" Peters.

In lieu of flowers Dorothy M. Winner memorial fund has been established.

Dorothy's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Dubuque Specialty Care and Hospice of Dubuque for their kind, compassionate and professional care of Dorothy.
