Mrs. McMullen

One of Cascade's most venerable and beloved citizens passed to her eternal reward when Mrs. Edward McMullen died early last Thursday morning following a year's period of ill health primarily induced by the advanced of years.

Mrs. McMullen was a kind and indulgent mother, the personification of charity, a noble character, a loyal and devoted wife and a citizen of outstanding personality. Her will to live life fully in a true Christian manner endeared her to legions and despite her advanced years everyone who knew her mourned the demise of a wonderful woman.

Julia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hardiman was born in County Down, Ireland, on January 12, 1851.

She came to this country at the age of two, settled in Dubuque county and had lived in this vicinity until her death. She was married to Edward McMullen in 1866 and he preceded her in death several years ago.

Surviving are eight children Mrs. Frank Cooley, Mrs. Tessie Connell, and Henry, all of Cedar Rapids; Leo, James, Mrs. John (Julia) Leytem, and Mrs. Albert (Mame) Fay, all of Cascade, and Eldon of Farley, 33 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at nine o'clock from the Albert Fay home in East Cascade to St. Martin's church with interment being made in the Cascade Catholic cemetery. Rev. Thos. Rooney officiated at both the church and the grave.

Pall bearers were Honorary—Henry Gehl, N. J. Hoffman, Jas. Davis, Hugo Weber, Frank Takes, Fred Lehner, Phil Devine, John Lowham. Active— Chas. Corey, John McMullen, Jos. McMullen, Jack, Jas. Donald, Albert and Harlan Leytem.
