Dubuque Democratic Herald – May 1, 1864

The remains of Mrs. J. M. McKinlay arrived on the steamer Milwaukee late Friday night and will be conveyed to her final resting place today at 3 o’clock. She was a woman universally beloved and respected, an affectionate wife and fond mother, she was taken suddenly sick at night and died before morning. She leaves two promising boys and a fond husband to mourn her sudden and unexpected demise. Her age was 34 years.
